History

Steffex was established in 1975 by Stefan Fransen (STEFan Fransen EXport). The company initially concentrated on importing doors from the Far East. The doors were supplied to DIY shops in the Netherlands, which originated precisely at that time (the beginning of the 70s).

At a later stage the doors were no longer purchased exclusively in the Far East, but also in other parts of the world. Canada in particular became an important country of origin. During that time Steffex introduced its trade name Candoor. This name is derived from Canadian Doors. The Candoor logo at that time was also adorned with a maple leaf.

Steffex remained a family company until 1988. In that year there was a management buy-out, and the management took over the shares. Steffex continued to expand rapidly, and grew in line with the developments in the DIY market. In 1998 it was decided for that reason to join forces with Deli Maatschappij, an international group of distributing trade companies operating in the area of building materials and agricultural products.

Steffex continued to keep pace with developments in the DIY market and extended its range of exterior and interior doors with MDF wall and radiator panels and garden furniture. The range was later further extended with small furniture items, bathroom fittings and built-in equipment. By responding to these developments, Steffex succeeded in becoming a wholesale company with a leading position on the DIY market in the Netherlands.
